Cultural Engagement

To demonstrate appreciation for the contributions of different cultures and commit to evangelism and biblically based ministry with appropriate engagement with people in those cultures.

Overall Reflection Statement on Cultural Engagement

For my competence in Cultural Engagement, I am submitting pictures of the group of students that I have been leading a bible study with for six weeks.  This is an after school program sponsored by Heights Baptist Church called Lighthouse ministry.  The opportunity to teach the children Bible lessons has been a great experience, and I have enjoyed engaging with the Hispanic community.  As an educator for over 26 years, I have always had a desire to work with diverse cultures.

Learning Reflection

As I have engaged with this cultural, I have more of a desire to spread the gospel.  I had a chance to share Jesus with them.  It was amazing to hear the children accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior.  What I realized the most is that helping children to know about God is so valuable to moving the gospel forward.  I am so thankful for the Holy Spirit for directing me toward the Lighthouse ministry.  It is about reaching all cultures with the gospel.

Lifelong Development Statement

From this experience, I have agreed to continue working with the Lighthouse ministry beyond this semester. I have acquired some more brothers and sisters in Christ. I am making a difference for the future kingdom of God by investing in the lives of children. I desire that the ministry not just be beneficial for the children, but for their parents take an interest in knowing about Jesus.

This is the bible study group that I have been involved with for about six weeks.  Every Friday at 4:30 we have children ranging from 3rd grade through 6th grade participating in the bible study and games until 6:00.
